TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
This project relates to Class A GPCRs, proteins that act like 'molecular telephones' in our bodies, controlling many important functions. Since 35% of approved drugs target them, studying how they work can lead to better treatments for diseases like cancer, diabetes, depression, and anxiety.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Class A GPCRs: Class A GPCRs are pivotal drug targets in our body, as they are involved in regulating almost all homeostatic processes in the human body.
It is estimated that around 35% of all drugs currently approved by the FDA target one of these GPCRs.
These proteins act like 'molecular telephones' and transmit signals from outside the cell to inside the cell.
Here, we aim to study the process that underlies their action on our body.
This is integral for providing insights into the protein's function and design better and new drugs targeting cancer, diabetes, depression and anxiety.

GPCRs
G Protein-Coupled Receptors
GPCRs are a large family of cell surface receptors that play a crucial role in transmitting signals from outside the cell to inside the cell. They are involved in various physiological processes and are important drug targets for treating many diseases.
Drug Targets
Molecules or biological pathways that are intended to be acted upon by drugs to produce a therapeutic effect.
Drug targets are specific molecules or pathways within the body that pharmaceutical companies aim to modulate with drugs. These targets can include proteins, enzymes, receptors, or genes. Identifying and targeting these molecules is crucial for developing new and effective medications.
FDA
Food and Drug Administration
The FDA is a federal agency responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.
Cancer
A group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and spread.
Cancer is a broad term encompassing a wide range of diseases marked by abnormal cell division and the potential to invade surrounding tissues. These cells often grow uncontrollably and can spread to other parts of the body through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.
Diabetes
A metabolic disorder characterized by high blood sugar levels.
Diabetes is a chronic condition affecting how the body regulates blood sugar. The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that helps cells absorb glucose for energy. In diabetes, either the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin (Type 1) or the body becomes resistant to its effects (Type 2), leading to elevated blood sugar.
Depression
A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest.
Depression is a common mental health condition marked by prolonged periods of low mood, sadness, and loss of interest or pleasure in activities. Individuals with depression may experience changes in sleep, appetite, energy levels, and concentration.
Anxiety
A mental health condition characterized by excessive worry, fear, and nervousness.
Anxiety is a common human emotion that can become problematic when it is persistent, excessive, and interferes with daily life. Anxiety disorders involve intense feelings of worry, fear, or apprehension that are disproportionate to the actual threat.
