Class A GPCRs are important proteins that control many things in our bodies. They act like cellular communication systems, transmitting signals from outside to inside cells. This project aims to understand how they work so we can develop new drugs for diseases like cancer, diabetes, and mental health conditions.

Class A GPCRs: Class A GPCRs are pivotal drug targets in our body, as they are involved in regulating almost all homeostatic processes in the human body.

It is estimated that around 35% of all drugs currently approved by the FDA target one of these GPCRs.

These proteins act like 'molecular telephones' and transmit signals from outside the cell to inside the cell.

Here, we aim to study the process that underlies their action on our body.

This is integral for providing insights into the protein's function and design better and new drugs targeting cancer, diabetes, depression and anxiety.

GPCRs are a large family of cell surface receptors that play a crucial role in signal transduction. They bind to various ligands, such as hormones and neurotransmitters, and activate intracellular signaling pathways that regulate diverse physiological processes.

Food and Drug Administration

The FDA is a US federal agency responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation.

Cancer

A group of diseases characterized by abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body.

Cancer is a broad term for diseases where cells grow uncontrollably and can damage surrounding tissues. These abnormal cells can form tumors and spread to other areas through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.

Diabetes

A group of metabolic disorders characterized by high blood sugar levels due to defects in insulin production or action.

Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body struggles to regulate blood sugar (glucose) levels. This can result from insufficient insulin production or the body's inability to use insulin effectively. Common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, and increased hunger.

Depression

A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities.

Depression is a common mental health condition that affects how you feel, think, and behave. It can cause intense sadness, hopelessness, loss of energy, changes in appetite and sleep patterns, difficulty concentrating, and thoughts of death or suicide.

Anxiety

A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease.

Anxiety is a normal human emotion, but when it becomes excessive and persistent, it can be a sign of an anxiety disorder. People with anxiety may experience symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating.
