TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
Folding@home is using CPU power to simulate proteins from the COVID-19 virus. This helps researchers learn how these proteins work and find potential drugs. The project focuses on the main protease, a key enzyme in the virus's life cycle. Updates are available on the Folding@home website.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
CORONAVIRUS PROJECT These projects are part of Folding@home’s efforts to assist researchers around the world taking up the global fight against COVID-19.
At the time of release, this is the latest news update: https://foldingathome.org/2020/03/10/covid19-update/ These projects are CPU projects to simulate COVID-19 proteins to learn about their dynamics and function.
These supplement high-priority GPU projects of the main protease as well as the COVID-19 receptor binding domains.
All can be considered potential drug targets.
Please stay tuned to https://foldingathome.org/news/ for more current updates.
ALL of these projects are Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 main protease in complex with a potential inhibitor:

RELATED TERMS GLOSSARY AI BETA
Coronavirus
A type of virus that causes respiratory illness.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause illnesses in animals and humans. Some coronaviruses, like SARS-CoV-2, can be very serious and lead to severe respiratory problems.
COVID-19
Coronavirus disease 2019
COVID-19 is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It can cause a range of symptoms, from mild to severe, and can lead to complications such as pneumonia and respiratory failure.
SARS-CoV-2
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2
SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes COVID-19. It is a type of coronavirus that is highly transmissible and can cause serious respiratory illness.
Main Protease
An enzyme essential for viral replication
The main protease is a crucial enzyme that coronaviruses use to replicate. It cleaves viral proteins, enabling the virus to assemble new copies of itself. Inhibiting this protease can prevent viral replication.
Inhibitor
A substance that blocks or reduces the activity of a specific enzyme or protein.
Inhibitors are compounds that can interfere with the function of biological molecules, such as enzymes. They are often used in drug development to target specific pathways involved in disease.
Drug Targets
Molecules or pathways that can be targeted by drugs to treat diseases.
Drug targets are biological molecules or processes that are essential for the development or progression of a disease. By targeting these specific molecules, drugs can aim to disrupt the disease mechanism and provide therapeutic benefit.
