TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
This project looks at Class F Receptors and Patched, proteins that control how cells develop. When these proteins don't work right, it can cause cancers like Basal Cell Carcinoma and Medulloblastoma. By using computer simulations, we hope to learn how these proteins are activated so we can better understand and treat these diseases.

Class F Receptors and Patched Membrane Protein Class F Receptors and Patched are human proteins that are involved in the control of cell differentiation.
Over-activation/inactivation of these proteins has links to Basal Cell Carcinoma and Medulloblastoma.
Through simulations we aim to understand the activation mechanisms of these proteins, giving us a way to probe into the pathogenesis of the disease.

Class F Receptors
A type of cell surface receptor involved in signal transduction.
Class F receptors are a group of proteins found on the surface of cells. They act as receptors, binding to specific molecules and triggering signaling pathways inside the cell. These pathways regulate various cellular processes, including growth, differentiation, and survival. Disruptions in Class F receptor function can contribute to diseases like cancer.
Patched Membrane Protein
A transmembrane protein that regulates the activity of Hedgehog signaling.
Patched is a protein embedded in cell membranes. It plays a crucial role in the Hedgehog signaling pathway, which is essential for embryonic development and tissue maintenance. Patched acts as a brake on this pathway, preventing excessive signaling. Mutations in Patched can lead to uncontrolled cell growth and contribute to cancers like medulloblastoma.
Basal Cell Carcinoma
A type of skin cancer that originates in the basal cells.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer. It arises from abnormal growth of basal cells, which are found in the deepest layer of the epidermis (skin). Basal cell carcinomas typically appear as pearly or waxy bumps and can be treated effectively with surgery, radiation therapy, or topical medications.
Medulloblastoma
A type of malignant brain tumor that originates in the cerebellum.
Medulloblastoma is a highly aggressive brain tumor that develops in the cerebellum, a part of the brain responsible for balance and coordination. It's most common in children and can cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty with movement. Treatment typically involves surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
