TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
This project looks at how different myosins work in the human body. Myosins are proteins that make our muscles move and help things move inside our cells. Scientists want to understand how drugs could fix problems with myosins, like those that cause heart disease.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project simulates several myosins found in the human body.
Myosins are the proteins responsible for most of the force generated by the body, from the contraction of muscles to the movement of materials around the cell.
We are interested in understanding the mechanistic basis of drugs that might be used to treat defects in myosin, including hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathies as well as heart failure.
Myosin was featured as the PDB Molecule of the Month in June 2001.

Myosins
Proteins responsible for force generation in the body.
Myosins are a type of protein found within cells that are crucial for movement. They power muscle contractions, allowing us to move, and also help transport materials inside cells. Scientists study myosins because defects in these proteins can lead to serious health problems like heart disease.
Proteins
Large, complex molecules essential for all biological processes.
Proteins are the building blocks of life. They perform a vast array of functions in our bodies, from transporting oxygen to fighting infections. Understanding proteins is key to understanding how living things work.
Muscle
Tissues that contract to produce movement.
Muscles are tissues that enable us to move. They work by contracting and relaxing, pulling on bones to create motion. There are different types of muscles in the body, including skeletal muscles (responsible for voluntary movement) and smooth muscles (found in organs).
Heart Failure
A serious condition where the heart can't pump blood effectively.
Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle weakens and cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs. This can lead to fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling in the legs and ankles. Treatment often involves medications, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgery.
Cardiomyopathy
A disease of the heart muscle.
Cardiomyopathy refers to a group of diseases that affect the heart muscle. This can make it harder for the heart to pump blood effectively. There are different types of cardiomyopathy, each with unique causes and symptoms. Treatment often involves medications, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, surgery.
PDB
Protein Data Bank
The Protein Data Bank (PDB) is a global repository of 3-dimensional structural data for biological macromolecules. Scientists use this information to understand how proteins function and develop new drugs.
