TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
Proteins do many things in our bodies! This project is designing new proteins called immunoglobulins to target specific proteins and control how our bodies work. Scientists are using computer simulations and AI to create these new proteins.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proteins come in all shapes and sizes and contain different chemical properties.
This variety allows them to have an extraordinary diversity of functions from helping your muscles contract to breaking down the food you eat to helping with the copying of your genetic code.
Given the versatility of proteins in nature, people have become interested in designing new proteins to carry out new functions.
In particular, people have been interested in designing new immunoglobulin proteins, as these proteins are good at identifying and binding to specific target proteins, which can be used to modulate the function of an existing system in your body.
In this project, we are simulating a large variety of single-domain immunoglobulin proteins then using the resulting data to train an AI algorithm to design new immunoglobulin proteins!.
RELATED TERMS GLOSSARY AI BETA
Proteins
Large biomolecules essential for various bodily functions.
Proteins are complex molecules found in all living things. They perform a wide range of tasks, from building and repairing tissues to speeding up chemical reactions. Their diverse structures and functions make them crucial for life.
Immunoglobulin
Antibodies that identify and bind to specific antigens.
Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, are proteins produced by the immune system. They recognize and attach to foreign substances called antigens, marking them for destruction by other immune cells. This process is essential for protecting the body from infections and diseases.
AI
Artificial Intelligence
AI refers to computer systems capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. AI algorithms are used in various applications, including image recognition, natural language processing, and medical diagnosis.
Algorithm
A set of instructions for solving a problem or completing a task.
An algorithm is a step-by-step procedure used by computers to process information and solve problems. It involves a series of instructions that are executed in a specific order to achieve a desired outcome.
