TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
Proteins are essential for many bodily functions. Scientists can design new proteins to perform specific tasks, like targeting and controlling other proteins. This project creates computer simulations of protein structures to train an AI that designs novel proteins, particularly immunoglobulins which are good at identifying targets.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proteins come in all shapes and sizes and contain different chemical properties.
This variety allows them to have an extraordinary diversity of functions from helping your muscles contract to breaking down the food you eat to helping with the copying of your genetic code.
Given the versatility of proteins in nature, people have become interested in designing new proteins to carry out new functions.
In particular, people have been interested in designing new immunoglobulin proteins, as these proteins are good at identifying and binding to specific target proteins, which can be used to modulate the function of an existing system in your body.
In this project, we are simulating a large variety of single-domain immunoglobulin proteins then using the resulting data to train an AI algorithm to design new immunoglobulin proteins!.
RELATED TERMS GLOSSARY AI BETA
Proteins
Large biomolecules essential for various bodily functions.
Proteins are complex molecules that perform many crucial tasks in living organisms. They help build and repair tissues, transport substances, fight infections, and regulate chemical reactions. Different proteins have unique shapes and functions, making them vital for life.
Immunoglobulin
Antibodies that recognize and bind to specific antigens.
Immunoglobulins are specialized proteins produced by the immune system to identify and neutralize foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. They act as antibodies, binding to specific targets (antigens) on these invaders to mark them for destruction or prevent them from harming the body.
AI
Artificial Intelligence
AI refers to computer systems designed to mimic human intelligence, enabling them to learn from data, solve problems, and make decisions. It encompasses various techniques like machine learning and deep learning, used in applications such as image recognition, natural language processing, and autonomous vehicles.
Algorithm
A set of instructions for solving a problem or performing a task.
An algorithm is a step-by-step procedure used to solve a specific problem or complete a task. It provides a clear and structured set of instructions that a computer can follow to process data, make decisions, and generate an output. Algorithms are fundamental to programming and are used in various applications, from search engines to financial modeling.
