This project looks at PfHT1, a sugar transporter in malaria parasites. Scientists want to figure out what types of sugars it moves and how this could help deliver anti-malaria drugs directly to the parasite.

Malarial parasite transporter PfHT1 - Plasmodium falciparum hexose transporter is a sugar transporter found in the malarial parasite, which transports glucose and fructose across the membrane.

In this project we aim to understand the substrate specificity mechanism of the transporter and to obtain a possible pathway of targetted delivery of anti-malarial drugs.

Malarial parasite

A parasite that causes malaria.
