RELATED TERMS GLOSSARY AI BETA
Coronavirus
A type of virus that causes respiratory illnesses.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause diseases ranging from the common cold to more severe illnesses like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The newest coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, causes the disease COVID-19. These viruses typically spread through respiratory droplets released when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Symptoms of COVID-19 can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, and loss of taste or smell.
SARS-CoV-2
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2
SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes COVID-19. It's a type of coronavirus that was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. This virus spreads through respiratory droplets from infected people and can lead to a range of symptoms, from mild cold-like symptoms to severe pneumonia.
COVID-19
Coronavirus disease 2019
COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Symptoms can vary widely, from mild (like a cold) to severe (pneumonia). The disease has spread globally, leading to significant public health challenges.
Proteins
Large biomolecules essential for the structure and function of all living things.
Proteins are complex molecules made up of chains of smaller units called amino acids. They play crucial roles in almost every biological process, including building and repairing tissues, transporting molecules, catalyzing chemical reactions, and fighting infections.
Simulate
To imitate or reproduce the behavior of a system or process.
Simulating means creating a computer model that mimics how something works. In science and engineering, simulations are used to test hypotheses, predict outcomes, and design new systems without having to build them in the real world.
