TLDR; PROJECT SUMMARY AI BETA
This project uses computer simulations to study how small protein-like molecules called peptides fold into specific shapes. Researchers are looking at different designs of these peptides with special chemical groups, and comparing the simulation results to real-world experiments. This helps them understand if computers can be used to design new peptides with useful properties.
Note: This TLDR is a simplication and may not be 100% accurate.OFFICAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project simulates the folding dynamics of several cyclic and non-cyclic peptides with designed halogen bond donors and acceptors.
We are particularly interested in comparing simulation results to experimental data across many different sequences, to assess the viability of simulation-based computational protein design.
This is a collabation with the Mate Erdelyi group at Uppsala University.
RELATED TERMS GLOSSARY AI BETA
peptides
Short chains of amino acids.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked together. They are important building blocks of proteins and play various roles in biological systems.
halogen bond
A type of non-covalent interaction between atoms.
Halogen bonds are a special type of attraction between atoms. They involve a halogen atom (like chlorine or bromine) and an electron-rich region on another molecule. This bond is important in many biological processes.
simulation
A computer model of a real-world system.
Simulation involves using computers to create a virtual representation of a system. Scientists use simulations to study complex processes that are difficult to observe directly.
protein design
The process of engineering proteins with specific functions.
Protein design is a field where scientists use their knowledge of protein structure and function to create new proteins with desired properties. This has applications in medicine, materials science, and other areas.
computational
Using computers to solve problems.
Computational methods involve using computers to analyze data, simulate processes, and make predictions. Bioinformatics is a field that applies computational tools to biological problems.
